Prime Minister Narendra Modi will dedicate to the nation a state-of-the-art auditorium with 1,500 seating capacity and hi-tech Central Research Laboratory of National Institute of Technology (NIT), Durgapur tomorrow.

“The inauguration of these two projects by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi will not only mark a significant milestone for the Institute as it will help the Institute to strengthen its pedagogy by expanding its academic courses and students’ strength but will also symbolise the unwavering commitment of the government to provide a conducive environment for holistic development of students of the state. The legacy of excellence continues, with the Institute poised to script new milestones in the field of engineering education,” says Professor Arvind Choubey, director of NIT Durgapur.

NIT Durgapur is one of the oldest technical institutes of the country having the privilege of being an institution of national importance with an NIRF ranking of 43.

The Central Research Laboratory is G+10-storied with 11,110 sqm, centrally air-conditioned central research laboratory building exclusively built for high-level multi-disciplinary research and innovation.

Sophisticated instruments like ‘high resolution transmission electron microscope (HRTEM)’, ‘ion chromatography (IC)’, Fourier transform nuclear magnetic resonance spectrometer (FT-NMR) with 400 MHz resolution, etc. will be housed in the building to cater the present day societal needs and research on thrust areas such as water, environment, green energy and assistive technology. This building will house advanced central research facilities like, Centre for Research on Environment and Water (CREW), Centre For Biomedical Engineering & Assistive Technology (BEAT), Centre for Advanced Research on Energy (CARE), Centre of Excellence on IoT and Intelligent Systems (IoTIS) NIT Durgapur also boasts of constructing one of the best auditoriums in West Bengal, having a 1500 seating capacity, a 20,000-lumen projection system, state-of-the-art acoustics and audio- visual facilities. The stage of the auditorium spans an expansive 288 sq meters, complemented by a sizable screen measuring 17.5 x 6 sq meters and is centrally air-conditioned, ensuring a comfortable and immersive experience for all attendees.

Spread over an area of 187 acres, the campus has around 5000 students from India and abroad, who have taken courses in the different disciplines in the Institute. At present, NIT Durgapur offers nine UG programs, 21 PG courses, and PhD programs in the spheres of engineering, science, technology and humanities.
